Ford F-150 chip repair - faster, cheaper, keeps your factory seal
Most Ford F-150 chips can be saved. A proper chip repair is 20 to 30 minutes start to finish, uses UV-cured optical resin to fill the impact, restores the structural strength of the glass, and lets you drive away immediately - no cure time, no calibration, no day off work.
We come to you anywhere in our Western New York green-zone - Clarence, Hamburg, Lancaster, and Orchard Park, and everywhere in between. Repair when we can, replace when you need to, we do both. But when a chip can be saved, repair is almost always the smarter call: you keep the original factory seal, you keep the original glass, and the Ford Co-Pilot360 camera (if your trim has one) does not need to be re-calibrated because the windshield never came out.
Ford F-150 damage patterns we see all the time
Trucks take a different beating than sedans. The F-150 sits higher, the windshield is bigger and more upright, and the daily driving pattern - I-90 to a job site, Clarence farm roads, gravel hauling - means highway rock-truck spray and gravel-road impacts are by far the most common damage we see. Most F-150 chips are mid-pane bullseye or star hits in the upper third of the glass.
Chip types we repair
- Bullseye chips - circular impact with a dark center. Cleanest to repair, near-invisible result.
- Star chips - small center with radiating legs. We fill the center and stop the legs from spreading.
- Combination chips - bullseye + star together. Repairable in most cases, cosmetic outcome depends on the size.
- Surface pits - small dimples that have not penetrated the outer layer. We can usually polish these out without resin.
When chip repair is NOT the right call
We will tell you straight when a repair will not hold. The honest list:
- chips larger than about a quarter (too much glass missing for resin to fill structurally)
- chips with crack legs already past a few inches - this is now a crack-repair conversation, not a chip-repair one
- chips in the driver line of sight where insurers will not cover repair, or where even a near-invisible repair will distort vision under sun glare
- chips at the edge of the glass that have compromised the urethane seal - this almost always means replacement
- chips in laminated side or rear glass on certain Ford F-150 trims - we will assess in person
If your damage falls into one of these buckets, we will tell you on the photo text - before you have given us a deposit, before we have driven out. And we will quote the replacement honestly with what your specific year and trim actually needs (including ADAS calibration if applicable).
Why chip repair is not “less than” replacement on a Ford F-150
Some shops push every chip toward a full replacement because the replacement invoice is bigger. We do not. A properly repaired chip:
- stops the chip from ever spreading into a full crack
- restores about 90% of the original structural strength of the glass
- leaves a faint hairline at worst, near-invisible at best
- keeps your original OEM glass, original urethane seal, and original Ford Co-Pilot360 camera calibration intact
- is typically a fraction of the cost of a replacement and most NY comprehensive policies waive the deductible entirely
That last bullet is the one most Ford F-150 owners do not know. Insurance companies want you to repair instead of replace because the replacement claim is much more expensive for them - so many policies cover chip repair at zero cost to you with no deductible applied. Ask us about insurance billing when you call; we can usually tell you how your policy treats chip repair specifically.
What a Ford F-150 chip repair actually costs
Cost depends on the chip type, how many impacts there are, and whether your comprehensive insurance applies. We do not list a flat number on this page because every chip is a little different and a flat number would be a half-truth.
Honest quote in under 60 seconds: call (716) 548-2683 or text a photo of the damage, and we will reply with a real assessment, the real number for your specific damage, and the soonest realistic time slot. Ask us about insurance billing - many NY comprehensive policies cover chip repair with no out-of-pocket cost.
Lifetime warranty
Every chip we repair is backed by Sonny's lifetime warranty. If the repaired chip ever spreads into a crack down the road, we credit the chip repair toward the replacement. That is Sonny's commitment as a one-truck local shop - not a third-party product.
