Jeep Wrangler damage patterns we see all the time
Wranglers have the most distinct damage pattern of any vehicle we service. Trail rocks come in lower and bigger than highway gravel. The flat upright windshield catches direct hits rather than glancing blows. And the lifted suspension means a rock kicked up by the rear wheel of the Jeep in front of you on a trail run can absolutely thud your glass. We see plenty of large bullseye chips and starbursts on Wranglers - bigger than what we see on any other vehicle.
Chip types we repair
- Bullseye chips - circular impact with a dark center. Cleanest to repair, near-invisible result.
- Star chips - small center with radiating legs. We fill the center and stop the legs from spreading.
- Combination chips - bullseye + star together. Repairable in most cases, cosmetic outcome depends on the size.
- Surface pits - small dimples that have not penetrated the outer layer. We can usually polish these out without resin.
When chip repair is NOT the right call
We will tell you straight when a repair will not hold. The honest list:
- chips larger than about a quarter (too much glass missing for resin to fill structurally)
- chips with crack legs already past a few inches - this is now a crack-repair conversation, not a chip-repair one
- chips in the driver line of sight where insurers will not cover repair, or where even a near-invisible repair will distort vision under sun glare
- chips at the edge of the glass that have compromised the urethane seal - this almost always means replacement
- chips in laminated side or rear glass on certain Jeep Wrangler trims - we will assess in person
If your damage falls into one of these buckets, we will tell you on the photo text - before you have given us a deposit, before we have driven out. And we will quote the replacement honestly with what your specific year and trim actually needs (including ADAS calibration if applicable).
Why chip repair is not “less than” replacement on a Jeep Wrangler
